Date: 17 Jun 2008
Subject: Postdoc Researcher in data mining at U. of Florida, Gainesville

Chris Jermaine and Sanjay Ranka at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida are looking for a postdoctoral researcher in the general area of data mining. The ideal candidate would have knowledge of applied statistics and/or statistical machine learning (MCMC methods, point estimation via the EM algorithm, hypothesis testing, and so on), though we are open to hiring a candidate who may not have specific knowledge of all of these techniques, but can demonstrate an openness and ability to learn. For an example of the type of scholarly work that we expect will come out of the post-doc, take a look at our paper in KDD last year.

The goal of our project is to try to find links between antimicrobial use and antimicrobial drug resistance in a hospital environment. The researcher will work on developing new methods to mine antimicrobial (antibiotic) resistance data. We anticipate that the postdoctoral researcher will also work on other topics related to data mining and databases.

A PhD in computer science, statistics, or a related field is required. The position would be contingent upon the candidate demonstrating the ability to legally work in the US; unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visa applications. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. We anticipate a start date sometime this summer, and that the position will last for at least one year.
