Subject: Redmond, WA: Senior Software Development Engineer in Test, Bing at Microsoft

In Core Ranking, our job is simply stated, Match a query against billions of documents and produce the best ordering possible. Do this for thousands of queries every second. Do it really fast. Bing

Improving relevance goes hand in hand with improving performance and those are our key focus. As a senior SDET in core ranking you will start with owning performance across several components: design a scalable, reliable and usable performance system that is central to any ship or experimentation decisions we make. You will be at the center of the action that enables us to delight our customers every day and brings market share to Microsoft.

You will be part of our leadership to redefine what test brings to the table. We are not a traditional testing team, here everything is possible! Typically, testing involves a lot of functional "does this work or not" type tasks. However, in the Relevance space, you have to answer questions like, "how relevant are we"? You have to measure and quantify our gain in Relevance. This is no easy task. We can take a lot of different approaches, so while you will be working on the coolest technology at Microsoft, you will grow your skills literally every day!

There are lots of hard problems still unsolved here. You can make a difference and own significant pieces of our core search technology. You can have impact on Microsoft's bottom line and help shape engineering practices in a services organization. Bring your passion for innovation and quality to our team and realize your full career potential. This is where the action is!

A successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • 5+ years designing and developing software with a proven track record as a technical leader on senior level projects
  • Strong design, coding and debugging skills in C++/C#
  • Ability to influence and drive quality across teams, across disciplines, and across organization
  • Ability to perform system-wide root cause analyses and drive improvements
  • Demonstrated experience shipping products at Microsoft (Services a big plus but not required)
  • Exceptional test aptitude, customer focus and expertise in formal and informal testing techniques as well as quality measurement
  • A BS degree in computer science or a commensurate experience is required
  • Machine learning, information retrieval techniques, data mining & statistical analysis experience are a plus.
This position is located in Redmond, Washington.
