David, Singularity
While it may be the case that individual singularities will occur (e.g. there may be a computer smarter than Ray Kurzweil), I don't think that all humanity will suffer defeat. Unlike Deep Blue, which had a specific functionality, adaptive and evolving strategic thinking have taken a very long time to develop and will take a very long time to implement. By then, we, or some of us, may have advanced yet again.
