CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
33RD SYMPOSIUM ON THE INTERFACE OF COMPUTING SCIENCE
AND STATISTICS:
FRONTIERS IN DATA MINING AND BIOINFORMATICS
JUNE 13TH-16TH, 2001, COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA
Conference Web page: http://www.ics.uci.edu/interface
The Interface is the premier annual conference in the area of
computing and statistics. This year's conference will feature
24 invited sessions and 14 contributed paper sessions on
numerous "hot topics" in data analysis, such as analyzing Web data,
Bayesian bioinformatics, data visualization, massive data
sets, flexible predictive models, model-based clustering,
gene expression data, classification algorithms, and much more.
Keynote speakers include James Goodnight (SAS), David Heckerman
(Microsoft Research), and Terry Sejnowski (Salk). Invited speakers
include Jerry Friedman (Stanford), Judea Pearl (UCLA),
Mike West (Duke) and Vladimir Vapnik (AT&T). The conference
will be preceded by short courses on Bayesian hierarchical
modeling (David Draper, UCSC), bioinformatics (Pierre Baldi,
UCI), and data mining (Ed Wegman, GMU). The last day of the
conference, June 16th, will be devoted exclusively to the topic
of Bioinformatics with invited talks from key experts in the
areas of biological sequence analysis, gene expression data
modeling, medical informatics, and brain image analysis.
