Subject: Concept-map of KDnuggets archive

Andrew Smith of Leximancer has created interesting concept maps of KDnuggets News, for each year from 1996 to 2000 -- see http://www.leximancer.com/kdnuggets.html

One can see interesting trends, like arrival of XML in 1999 and changes in KDnuggets location from its old site at GTE in 1996 to KDnuggets.com in 1997.

If you find interesting trends or observations, please email them to editor and I will summarize in the next issue.

Andrew Smith wrote that The bar charts of pairwise and tuple relationships on the right side of the map show _direct_ relationships.

The globe cluster map on the left reveals direct and _indirect_ relationships. Andrew suggets to centre and zoom on the cluster neighbourhood of some concept, and tunnel using the hyperlinks in the right hand panel to deduce why the concepts are related. If they are not strongly linked directly, they usually have several third-party concepts in common. This can mean they are performing similar roles, or are in a similar market. These indirect relationships are really hypotheses, and this fits my understanding of chaining links to find novel relationships.
