In May 2001, KDnuggets poll asked:
Where did you apply data mining in the past year?
The latest poll looked into the future and asked:
Where are you planning to data mine in the next 6 months?
(multiple choices allowed)
Based on 448 votes, the top areas were
- eCommerce/Web 14%
- Banking 12%
- Fraud Detection 10%
- Telecom 10%
- Biology/Genetics 9%
- Science Data 9%
- Retail 8%
- Pharmaceuticals 6%
- Insurance 6%
Compared to the results of the
past poll,
the most surprising finding is the relative distribution is almost unchanged.
The only significant differences are the decrease in
Banking applications (17% to 12%) and
Increase in Retail (6% to 8%)
