Department Marketing Statement

This position is part of the Business-Driven Architecture group. BDA is responsible for improving the technology infrastructure across Capital One in support of the needs of the various lines of business. This position will be in the Applied Technology group in BDA. Applied Technology is responsible for identifying longer term technology trends and working with the business to move high-value technology into the organization.

Responsibilities

The person in this role will be responsible for helping to drive the information technology strategy for statistical data analysis and decisioning at Capital One. This will involve working with line-of-business customers to understand their needs for statistical decisioning, reviewing solutions available in the marketplace, and putting together a plan to bring the two together. This is not a research job to find the latest, coolest technology; instead the goal is to identify technology with solid business value and work with the business to bring those technologies to bear on the problem at hand.

Qualifications

A candidate for this position will need a strong background (5+ years) in statistics, machine learning, and computer science. Techniques such as regression modeling, decision trees, text mining, and neural networks should be well understood. Candidates will also need to have a practical understanding of how businesses use those technologies in order to generate business value. This is not a research position.

A history of experience at a statistical software/data mining vendor or at a customer relationship management (CRM) vendor would be a plus. As would experience working with statistical decisioning systems in the financial services industry.

A bachelors degree in a technology related field is required. Advanced degrees are a plus.
