New Jersey Institute of Technology Offers Data Mining Graduate Certificate Program

New Classes Start September 1, 2005

Newark, New Jersey -- June 23, 2005 -- New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) through its Continuing Professional Education Division announced today that it is offering a 12 credit, Graduate Certificate in Applied Statistical Methods. This certificate is a stand-alone credential or can springboard to corresponding Master degrees at NJIT or elsewhere. Should the successful Graduate Certificate holder decide to continue studying at NJIT towards the corresponding Masters degree then the student will enjoy the additional benefits of rapid matriculated acceptance, exemption from the normal requirement of providing a GRE score, and eventual acquisition of two credentials essentially for the price of one.

The Data Mining Graduate Certificate not only teaches students how to work with companies that collect reams of data about their customers and their transactions, but how professionals can drill through these repositories of data to unearth crucial insights and knowledge about customer behavior and market trends. This certificate provides an introduction to data mining with an emphasis on large scale databases as a source of knowledge generation and competitive advantage. The focus is on providing analysts with the technical abilities to design and use the data resources of an organization. This certificate is of particular relevance to: business analysts, data base analysts, and marketing analysts. This credential relates in its entirety to the NJIT MS in Computer Science or NJIT MS in Information Systems. In additon, a customized version of this certificate can be designed to match a particular company's specific needs within this specialty area and conducted on the company's premises.

In recognizing that today's professionals need flexibility in order to advance their education and careers, NJIT's Data Mining certificate has been designed so that it can be studied in whole either by online learning, or in a traditional classroom setting at NJIT in Newark or on a company's premises. Online learning allows students to work at their own pace within a semester choosing when they want to log into a Virtual Classroom. Students study around their schedules morning, afternoon or night, fitting the learning process into their lives (vs. their lives into the learning). The intimacy of online learning presents an environment that is often viewed as more comfortable and one in which students can develop a greater degree of confidence in their work since students have more time to reflect and respond to class activities.
