The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has one Research Programmer (Specializing as a Text Mining Analyst) position available. This position will be responsible for the design and implementation of algorithms for the classification and mining of structured and unstructured data streams. This includes: using supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques to find patterns and relationships in the data, classification, clustering, detection of anomalies, information indexing and retrieval, and data visualization and summarization.

Qualifications:

• MS degree in computer science or engineering required. Alternative degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to current NCSA technologies).
• Experience in machine learning techniques, software support and development and a strong working knowledge of various programming platforms (Java, C, C++, Python, Perl, etc…).
• Prefer experience in text mining (applied) research and knowledge of state of the art text analytics
• Experience in one or more of the following: text mining, data fusion, data stream processing, information retrieval, artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistical methods, distributed databases, knowledge management/representation/discovery and/or pattern recognition.
• Experience with Object Oriented/J2EE development/design, XML databases, n-tiered applications and cross system integration
• Working knowledge of version control software for software development.
• Experience writing unit tests and complete source code documentation.
