Allstate Research and Planning Center located in Menlo Park, CA (part of Allstate Insurance Company), has a great opportunity for a Senior Research Associate to work with a multidisciplinary group of Research professionals conducting research on all major facets of the insurance business. Allstate Insurance Company is the largest publicly traded Property & Casualty Insurance Company in the United States. The work of our Research Center helps the company evaluate various business programs and make decisions about future company direction.

Qualified individual will design and lead the state-of-the-art geospatial analytics and predictive modeling projects. Individual will employ end-to-end data mining & statistical modeling skills as well as explore the use of new data sources, research methods, and modeling techniques. They will share expertise with others and provide guidance in the building and evaluation of models.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and investigate new analysis methods and data sources
  • Lead project design and execution
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring for other members in the team
  • Analyze new data sources, clean and filter data, extract and transform features
  • Apply advanced methods for feature selection and parameter estimation
  • Communicate project status and results with colleagues and management
  • Work within teams to integrate findings and models into company operations
  • Identify new areas of research critical for company direction and strategy
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in statistics, applied mathematics, operations research, computer science, or a related field. An FCAS or Ph.D. is very desirable.
  • 5+ years of industry or academic experience in data mining/applied statistical modeling on large-scale datasets, including experience in geostatistics or spatial data mining.
  • Experience in Property & Casualty insurance industry a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand business problems, to recommend solutions, and to assist with implementation.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to audiences of various management levels and technical backgrounds.
  • Ability to think broadly and creatively
  • Ability to learn quickly and to apply new tools and techniques.
  • Strong listening and communications skills - highly collaborative work style yet able to work independently.
  • Demonstrated project planning and management skills.
  • Proficiency with programming and data management experience in a UNIX environment beneficial.
