Allstate Research and Planning Center located in Menlo Park, CA (part of Allstate Insurance Company), has a great opportunity for a Senior Research Manager to work with a multidisciplinary group of Research professionals conducting research on all major facets of the insurance business. Allstate Insurance Company is the largest publicly traded Property & Casualty Insurance Company in the United States. The work of our Research Center helps the company evaluate various business programs and make decisions about future company direction.

Qualified individual will provide leadership in people and project management. They will give direction and coaching to research analysts on modeling and data analysis projects which provide actionable insights and create predictive models for insurance products and processes. Individual will ensure staff fully explores the use of new data sources, research methods and modeling methods to expand the basic research knowledge of the company. They will design and develop creative research solutions to address business problems.

Responsibilities:

• Manage analytic staff in the execution of data analysis and in the creation and validation of predictive models
• Identify and investigate new research methods and data sources
• Contribute to the formulation of ARPC's basic research agenda
• Communicate project progress to colleagues and to upper management
• Work within teams to integrate findings and models into company operations
• Collaborate with research staff to integrate a cross-functional perspective into research projects
• Participate in employee performance development, resource allocation and management processes

• Degree in Operations Research, Applied Math, Computational Sciences, Statistics, Data Mining or related field.
• Significant management experience
• Demonstrated successful management of projects and employees in an analytic environment.
• Insurance industry experience a plus
• Capability in analyzing data and integrating such analysis into general conclusions to solve business problems or to support company strategies
• Experience with multivariate regression, data visualization, clustering or other data mining techniques such as decision trees on large-scale data sets
• Strong writing and presentation skills
• Ability to think broadly and creatively
• Strong listening and communications skills - highly collaborative work style
• Proficiency in data management in a UNIX and/or mainframe environment beneficial
• Proficiency in MATLAB, S-plus/R or SAS preferred
