As a senior member of the Matching Sciences group, you may pursue a
research program on the topic of matching users to relevant content
and paid offers. The matching may be done using search, document
analysis, user behavior analysis, and the economics of optimal
allocation. Some relevant areas of inquiry are as follows:
- Information retrieval / natural language processing
- Machine learning / data mining
- Yield management / mechanism design
Develop new algorithms and problem statements for the research problem
described above. Lead small teams to build prototypes (hands-on
analysis and coding). Advocate and facilitate the transfer of
technology into production. Publish results in peer reviewed
forums. Mentor research engineers. Become intimately familiar with
Yahoo! data.
Basic qualifications:
- Excellent communication ability; applicants will be required to give a 30-45 minute presentation on a significant research result in the above fields
- Ability to understand business strategy and to translate theoretical results into applications
- Willingness to perform research that is guided by business opportunities
Preferred qualifications:
- PhD and research track record in computer science, economics, or related field
