The Knowledge Discovery Group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Autonomous Intelligent Systems is a dynamic team doing applied research in the areas of text mining, data mining, machine learning and grid computing, etc. The stress is on international research projects for the European Union and world leading industrial partners. Last year our group hosted the International Machine Learning Conference 2005 in Bonn.

We look for a computer scientist, statistician, machine learning expert, mathematician or computer linguist.

Your task is the design, acquisition, realization and management of research and industrial projects in these areas with an emphasis to research in text mining and machine learning. You produce research results and innovations, which are published and presented to the international research community. Science at an international level and financially successful applications for economic customers are a motivation for you. You define your focal points of research and influence our scientific and economic strategy. You have a scientific degree and preferably a successful PhD in computer science, statistics, physics, mathematics, or computational linguistics.

You have excellent theoretical and practical experience in at least one of the following areas: Machine learning, information retrieval, and statistical learning. Besides comprehensive knowledge on the realization of java-based complex software systems, you have a good working knowledge of current web technologies. In addition we take for granted good knowledge of the English language, communication abilities and the capacity for teamwork.
