JOB SUMMARY: Performs statistical analyses, interpreting internal and external data sources to support the delivery of analytical services to internal clients. Responsible for the development and maintenance of predictive models used to drive business objectives as directed by supervisor. Extracts and prepares modeling data using SQL and SAS from multiple internal/external data sources.

RELATIONSHIP: Manager/Director

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Uses strong data manipulation skills to gather, analyze, and interpret a wide variety of data from various sources to support business objectives.
  • Uses advanced predictive modeling skills to develop and maintain predictive statistical/data mining models to provide the analytical infrastructure necessary to support business objectives.
  • Applies industry knowledge and curiosity to investigate potential sources of information to improve predictive models and/or related processes.
  • Uses strong programming/data manipulation skills to create scoring, reporting, and tracking processes.
  • Prepares ad hoc reports, charts, tables and other visual aids to support communication of analytical results.
  • Applies proper statistical/data mining methods to address ad hoc projects with guidance from supervisor.
  • Validates, tracks and updates predictive models periodically and provides validation reports as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education: Masters or PhD degree in quantitative field.
  • Licenses/Designations: None required.
Experience:
Three years related experience with large databases, analytical problem solving in a business environment, SAS programming, and SQL programming.
Statistical/Data mining experience should cover many of the following techniques:
  • regression (e.g., OLS regression and generalized linear models),
  • decision trees,
  • neural networks,
  • genetic algorithms,
  • support vector machines,
  • time series models,
  • Markov processes, and
  • experimental design.
Knowledge: Working knowledge of data management, project management, data analysis, manipulation and extraction of multi-terabyte analytical platforms. Prefer some property & casualty insurance industry knowledge.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with business unit leadership and team leaders.
  • Ability to efficiently manipulate large datasets using SAS and SQL.
  • Advanced statistical/data mining skills in the area of predictive modeling.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and multiple statistical and business software packages (i.e., SAS, Hyperion, Salford Systems).

JOB CONDITIONS:
Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (exempt)
Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Extended and/or non-standard hours based on project needs.
