The Company

Detica engagements range from strategy formulation, through people and process change, to the delivery and support of technology solutions.

The Role
Working with the Datalab team, Detica's analytics center of excellence, the role involves a varied combination of client contact and hands-on technical skills. Datalab is a facility that brings together experts, hardware, and software, allowing customers to commission one-off pieces of analytics work, proofs of concept, and/or ongoing data-oriented managed services. It represents a critical component of Detica's Information Intelligence strategy and is where much of the innovative early thinking takes place on projects.

Successful candidates should expect to engage with customers and understand their data-related issues, and to suggest strategies and approaches to extract the necessary intelligence from data. The work is highly varied, from people management to service development to advanced analytics (involving the manipulation, analysis, and modeling of complex data to deliver the intelligence required for optimal decision-making). Datalab data analytics techniques include data mining, social network analysis, pattern recognition, and predictive modeling and is used in areas which include:

  • Intelligence analysis.
  • Detection and prevention of fraudulent behavior (e.g., first-party fraud, thirdparty fraud, identify fraud, insider collusion).
  • Analysis and prediction of customer behavior.
  • Business process optimization.
Experience
We are seeking individuals with a minimum of two years of successful experience in data analytics, operations research, or data manipulation. We would expect this to be spread across a variety of activities with exposure to the full end-to-end data processes being used. A clear track record of design/modeling approaches and interpretation of results is required. Exceptional recent graduates will also be considered, and are encouraged to apply.

Skills
Candidates must be able to demonstrate a range of skills and experience, typically including:

  • Statistical analysis and modeling techniques.
  • Use of standard statistical packages such as SAS, SPSS, S-Plus, or R.
  • Experience working with very large datasets using Oracle, SQL Server, SAND, SAS or similar tools with some knowledge of relational and dimensional data modeling and design.
  • Exposure to integration of third party data.
  • An understanding of ETL techniques, data transformation, data matching, and cleansing.
  • Query, reporting, and OLAP tools, such as Business Objects/Crystal Reports, SAS, and Alterian.
  • Exposure to data warehousing techniques.
For more senior candidates, the following skills are also required:
  • Good commercial/pragmatic abilities in order to understand and interpret client requirements and creatively plan programs of work.
  • Proposal preparation - definition of the approaches and estimates.
  • Management of teams and budgetary control of projects.
  • Strong progression in technical and analytic skills.
Academic Qualifications
Candidates will possess excellent academic credentials, typically with a degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, etc.); an advanced degree (M.S., PhD) is preferred.

Citizenship/Security Clearance
US citizenship required; active US Government security clearance desired, but not required.
