Subject: Coral Springs, FL or Melville, NY: Director Decision Science at First Data Corporation

As the leader in the fast, ever-changing world of e-commerce and payment services, First Data is looking for intelligent, motivated people to join its team. We are currently in search of a Director to join our Decision Science team in either Melville, NY or Coral Springs, FL.

This position is responsible for the development and integration of data mining and predictive modeling applications for fraud/risk management, collections, retention, marketing/cross sell, etc. The successful candidate will be an independent thinker and problem solver, with the ability to translate business problems into analytic solutions. There is a significant amount of interaction with senior management, from brainstorming new ideas and solutions, discussing business objectives/problems, presenting proposed solutions and 'selling ideas', to presenting analytic content and showing bottom-line benefit.

This position will also be partially responsible for evaluating all aspects of developing and maintaining long-term strategic platforms for supporting data mining applications. This position will lead R&D activities to solve for complex problems in the organization, as well as, direct research and form contacts with academia and industry experts. Another challenge will be taking on the task of championing the utilization of data mining/scoring technology across the organization to help galvanize Decision Management as a way of doing business. We are seeking someone to be a leader and voice within the scoring community which will help establish First Data as an industry leader in scoring technology.

The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a highly technical/mathematical discipline (i.e., Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics) with extensive knowledge in statistical theory (regression and multivariate statistics) and data mining techniques. Work experience utilizing predictive modeling and advanced data mining techniques in a real-world setting, preferably in a credit-related environment would be a plus.

Candidate should be familiar with Decision trees, Neural Network, and logistic regression techniques, theory and application. The person we are seeking will have extremely effective communications, organizational and project management skills. General knowledge of database systems such as Access and Oracle, SAS programming experience and strong overall technical skills are required.
