The Buyer Analytics team is responsible for providing analytic support for the eBay Buyer Experience Global Cross-Functional Team (GXT), an area of strategic importance for eBay since the company is redesigning the user experience for buyers.

The analytics team provides support in three main areas:
(1) Product Analytics - providing analytic guidance for decisions on new finding-related products that are in development
(2) Product Optimization - optimizing current products through analysis
(3) Business and Strategic Analytics - building on fact base, understanding of the buyer experience on eBay and identifying opportunities for long-term growth.

We are currently looking for a Senior Manager, Buyer Analytics to join the team. This individual will utilize his/her exceptional business judgment, strong analytic skills, and strong presentation skills to identify opportunities to improve the current site experience for buyers.

On a day-to-day basis, this individual will partner with Product Management to meet their analytic needs and will lead an analyst team in conducting extensive analyses of eBay�s rich data, generating insights, and communicating those insights to Product Management to guide the project roadmap. In the process, this person will develop a deep understanding of the Marketplaces businesses and eBay site functionality, further strengthen their analytic, leadership, and presentation skills, and gain exposure to a wide variety of functional teams within eBay.

Skills required:
Build Buyer Experience Fact Base

  • Become subject-matter expert in the buyer experience on eBay
  • Build out fact base through deep and innovative analysis of eBay�s large and rich datasets, and this requires deep knowledge of the eBay datasets and being hands on in pulling data directly from the database
  • Drive insights from the fact base to improve the user experience
  • Partner with senior management and Product Management to generate hypotheses for potential projects to improve the site experience
Provide Overall Buyer Analytics Support
  • Work cross-functionally with User Behavior Insights team and Information Management and Delivery teams to provide ad hoc buyer-related analytic support for senior management
  • Continue to evaluate existing business reporting for Buyer Experience sub-GXTs and identify opportunities for improvement
Manage and Build Analytics Team
  • Manage and develop a team of analysts
  • Provide oversight for the analyses
The role is data and analytically intensive. Successful candidates will offer a strategic perspective, sound business judgment, deep analytical capabilities, and a collaborative working style.

  • Good communication skills and experience presenting complex quantitative analysis.
  • Strong academic profile with an emphasis on quantitative coursework
  • Expert Excel (e.g. Pivot Tables a must, Macros a plus etc.), Access and PowerPoint skills; experience with database query tools (e.g., SQL); and a basic understanding of data warehouse architecture are required. Proficiency with statistical analysis tools (e.g., SAS, SPSS) is a plus.
  • Experience in product analytics is preferred but not required.
  • 7-10 years of experience, ideally with 3+ years at a leading management consulting firm, investment bank, or financial services company.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to present insights and recommendations persuasively. Skill and confidence in dealing with people at all levels of the organization are essential.
