The most popular type, not surprisingly, was the table data (fixed # of columns), analyzed by 85% of respondents. Next was time-series (38%), and text, free-form (34%).

the fastest growth (relative to 2006 values) was in mining these data types:

• web content, 149% increase (from 5.7% in 2006 to 14.2% in 2007)
• XML data, 64% increase (from 6.6% to 10.8%)
• web clickstream, 38% increase (from 8.50%, to 11.7%)

• other, 30% decline (from 14.2% in 2006 to 10.0% in 2007)
• itemsets/transactions (to find association rules), 23% decline (from 28.3% to 21.7%)
• anonymized data, 28% decline (from 25.5% to 18.3%)
