"The acquisition of Cognos by IBM will lead to a renewed state of innovation in the Business Intelligence (BI) market as there will be no dominant stand alone player. People will leave the large organizations to pursue specific niches of the BI market that have not been addresses yet --and there are many. Even the most favorably estimates suggest that the market penetration of BI into enterprises is about 20-25% of the potential user population. That leaves a lot of room for innovation. The megavendors simply can't move quick enough to react to the opportunities that exist and will arise."
