The Director, Marketing Modeling and Analytics will play a key role at Netflix by developing and refining predictive models, as well as mining data from throughout the business, which enable Netflix to grow as quickly as possible while also achieving EPS goals. Reporting to the VP, Marketing, the Director, Marketing Modeling and Analytics will partner with channel owners throughout the marketing team covering all aspects of new subscriber acquisition and new subscriber lifetime value.

Key strategic decisions are based on actionable and insightful analyses. Marketing at Netflix is lean, dynamic, fast paced and staffed with people who are highly analytical and data-driven. Netflix's Business Intelligence team invests significant resources in providing a rich data analysis environment across the company.

The mission for the Director, Marketing Modeling and Analytics is to create a competitive advantage for Netflix by delivering actionable and insightful models that increase new subscriber acquisition efficacy and new subscriber lifetime value. He/she will be part of the Company's senior management team that is analytically gifted, has an encyclopedic knowledge of the levers of growth and retention and possesses a passionate commitment for building a brand of long-term enduring value. This individual will have a direct and immediate impact on the business.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • The Director, Marketing Modeling and Analytics will be a quantitative leader in the organization, introducing and refining techniques that drive the business forward consistent with the company's strategy. He/she will interact regularly with analytical leaders in other departments, who will both challenge and improve his/her ideas as well as value his/her actionable insights.
  • He/she will actively design and implement predictive models and analyses that drive new subscriber acquisition channels. Understanding the business in depth and partnering directly with channel owners will be key to success.
  • On an ongoing basis, the Director, Marketing Modeling and Analytics will proactively identify new trends and/or opportunities to use predictive modeling and statistics to drive business value throughout marketing and the company. Though he/she will be focused on new subscriber acquisition, actionable insights that impact any core part of the business will be welcomed.
  • He/she will explore trends in the business using various data mining techniques to create actionable insight, both proactively and in response to channel owners' requests.
  • Netflix has recruited a world-class Business Intelligence leadership team that revels in data-driven, smart, business partners. The Director, Marketing Modeling and Analytics will be a key client on the marketing team and will partner with the Business Intelligence team to improve our analysis capabilities on an ongoing basis.
  • He/she will conceptualize and champion tests geared toward continually improving business results. New ideas will come in from everywhere, but ultimately, the Director, Marketing Modeling and Analytics is responsible for recognizing the good ideas and turning them into actionable models.
Qualifications
The Director, Marketing Modeling and Analytics will have at least 10+ years of experience in environments of excellence where modeling and analysis are valued and considered core to accomplishing business objectives.

The individual will also:

  • Have ideally contributed to the profitable top-line growth of a publicly traded consumer-focused company by providing analysis that makes a difference.
  • Come from a flexible, fast paced company where analytical thinking is core to success. Ideally he/she will also have worked: 1) at a publicly traded consumer-focused company, 2) have extensive experience with household level data (100M+) and 3) have worked in a consumer-facing business.
  • Have worked with diverse individuals (not just data and analyst types) and possesses a track record of garnering insights and information from face-to-face interactions.
  • Have strong programming experience with SAS and/or other statistical packages, as well as strong experience with CRM systems and relational databases. Is steeped in deep technical knowledge of current direct response techniques, strategies and trends.
  • Enjoy working in an interactive environment where everyone, regardless of level, is expected to be hands-on.
  • Preferably have a graduate degree in statistics, advanced math, or similar analytical field with 5+ years of hands-on modeling experience.

Shows resourcefulness in the absence of perfect information upon which to base analyses and conclusions. Also is a great, straight-forward communicator who does not sugar coat. Can organize, clarify and communicate complex ideas quickly, succinctly and accurately. Has a quick intelligence, is "fast on his/her feet," and quickly responds to inquiries and questions. Has a point of view and engages in healthy disagreement without being disagreeable.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit and Pace. Someone who is effective at leading and managing change in a fast-moving and constantly evolving business. Has a proclivity for risk-taking and will be a creative, "out-of-the-box" thinker. Moves at a nice clip and enjoys having dozens of projects going at one time. Can change course, be "scrappy", and engage in ad-hoc analysis on incredibly short timeframes. Is intellectually quick and in his/her element with little to no foundation or framework. Possesses an entrepreneurial spirit and is aggressive about competing externally.
  • Drive to Win / Results Orientation. The successful candidate is a high energy, sharp individual whose professional efforts are driven by the desire for excellence and a passion to succeed - both personally and as part of a team. Has the capacity and desire to both think and do. Flourishes in a hands-on role, adding value at many different levels (from mundane tasks to sophisticated, complex analysis). Has both the experience as well as the desire to work at all levels of the organization from assistant manager to the CEO. Likewise, has the credibility and delivers the results that will drive senior management to seek his/her counsel. Can juggle the details and the big picture. And looks forward to being a part of a fast-growing flat organizational structure where everyone regularly rolls up their sleeves with spreadsheets and the like.
  • High Emotional Intelligence and Maturity. Has the track-record, self-confidence and charisma to become a thought leader for the company. Sets high standards for self and others around him/her. Is a mature, fully-formed adult and has a happy, full and well-balanced life outside the office. Is motivated by what is best for Netflix. Thrives on walking around the floor to get real time inputs and information from colleagues. Recognizes that a critical aspect of being effective is having strong face-to-face relationships with all levels of colleagues. Has experience working effectively with Business Intelligence. Is not even slightly elitist.
