Liberty Mutual's Personal Markets business unit (PM) has invested heavily in enhancing its multi-channel distribution capabilities. This approach to the personal insurance market builds on the strengths of each channel to increase new business volume at a favorable acquisition cost, while also responding to evolving customer preferences as consumers choose among channels in their personal insurance purchase decisions and service interactions. Recently, PM has unified management of all distribution and service delivery channels in a single organization - PM Distribution. This position will play a key role in Personal Markets' future success by evaluating and implementing strategic actions to generate profitable growth and enhance customer satisfaction across multiple distribution and service delivery channels.

The Manager, Distribution Strategy will work directly with EVP, PM Distribution and VP, Distribution Strategy, Planning & Analysis to assess, validate and re-direct Personal Markets' multi-channel distribution strategy. The position is responsible for driving internal strategy and operational projects within PM Distribution.

Requires
(1) experience in structuring strategic issues into concrete analytical exercises with actionable conclusions,
(2) the ability to develop working relationships with other business functions,
(3) the skills to direct the work of junior team members and
(4) the skills and experience to influence senior management decision makers.

In addition, the position is responsible for developing perspective on market and competitive trends to inform strategic channel and marketing decisions and filling a Program Management function for PM Distribution by providing business leadership, process oversight, and analytic support for significant strategic or cross-organizational projects in PM Distribution.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with and understand the needs of executive management and translates those needs into actionable plans.
  • Demonstrates strong ability to solve complex business problems, consistent with a deep understanding of the strategic direction of the business. Synthesizes disparate data points and distills significant amounts of information into key issues and decision points.
  • Responsible for effective communication of business issues. Creates compelling business arguments. Demonstrates an understanding of various business audiences and crafts appropriate presentations. Translates strategic vision/direction into actionable steps.
  • Manages multiple work groups focused on developing and implementing solutions on key strategic topics. Specifically responsible for: (1) developing decision frameworks and hypotheses, (2) establishing clear priorities-among various ideas, (3) organizing the work of teams, (4) ensuring that workplan objectives are met. This role requires working within short time frames and meeting critical deadlines.
  • Provides Program Management functions for PM Distribution by providing business leadership, process oversight, and analytic support for significant strategic or cross-organizational projects in PM Distribution. Demonstrates the ability to influence diverse teams and build strong business relationships with other managers.
  • Develops perspective on market and competitive trends in the distribution of Personal Markets' products; builds consistent access to market / competitive information sources
  • Manages 1-2 business analysts as direct reports. Also directly responsible for the performance of project ream members crossing multiple departments. Project team size varies by size and complexity of projects
Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in business administration, finance or a related field and a minimum of 10 years insurance experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of business planning and budgeting.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills required as well as the ability to manage technical professionals.
  • Must be able to solve complex business problems and present recommendations to senior management effectively.
