Marketing Scientist
dunnhumby's success is founded upon our class-leading analysis capability. We work with the largest and richest consumer-based datasets in the world, addressing some of the most fundamental and complex problems in retail.

Our experts combine sophisticated data analysis with a deep understanding of business objectives, to offer our clients the most powerful customer insights available in the marketplace. We sift through enormous volumes of data to pick out the 'nuggets' that drive profitable marketing decisions. We help our clients win - and keep - their competitive edge in a fiercely contested marketplace.

In order to continue developing our capability we are setting up a new Marketing Science team, dedicated to the use of advanced analytic and modeling techniques. This will act as an internal center of excellence, containing some of the most experienced and expert people in dunnhumby. It will be responsible for developing some of our newest and most exciting solutions - solutions that will be transformational for both dunnhumby and our clients.

Responsibility

  • Develop and deliver world-leading marketing analysis on some of the largest and richest datasets in the industry
  • Knowledge sharing across the analysis community
Skills and Experience
  • Strong statistical programming skills, ideally in SAS and/ or other modeling languages/ environments (e.g. R, Mathematica, Matlab)
  • Understanding and experience of applied econometric techniques within marketing, particularly with regards to price elasticity: time-series analysis, multivariate regression (including mixed effects, and robust and Bayesian estimation), and dynamic model updating
  • Familiarity with large volumes of customer-basket-item data and its analysis, e.g.: stochastic choice or purchase propensity models (e.g. hierarchical logit, NBD etc.), product associations etc.
DESIRABLE
  • Knowledge of optimization theory and practice, ideally multi-objective constrained non-linear problems
  • Knowledge of techniques in data exploration and data mining: e.g. conformal mapping, clustering, neural networks etc.
  • Interest in data visualization and presentation
  • Interest in micro-economic theory and theories of consumer demand
Education
Higher degree (MSc, PhD) in a highly numerate subject e.g. Marketing Science, Economics and Econometrics, Operations Research, Math and Statistics, etc
