Microsoft online services generate huge amount of data ranging from user interaction logs, web documents, user feedback, to system performance data. The data contains valuable information for building the #1 search engine to serve people�s information needs. The data is also critical for making appropriate business decisions. The main challenge is to effectively process the data, discover information and put it into action. We are developing advanced and practical data mining, and machine learning techniques to derive information to understand user intent, discover patterns to improve search relevance and results ranking, detect and filter bot traffic, spam, and noise, and measure relevance and user satisfaction quickly and effectively, identify weak points of the search engine, discover system performance systems, measure/understand the health of the online business, and many more. We also work on techniques to manage and process petabyttes of data efficiently and effectively. Our BI pipelines use Cosmos, a highly-scalable, highly-available distributed storage/processing infrastructure to collect massive data and in conjunction of SQL server and SQL reporting service to perform analysis on the data and expose results to business teams and leadership teams.

The Bing Infrastructure Data Mining team is looking for experienced SDET to contribute to test these unique and challenging problems. Verify that the data pipeline is fully functional, that the metrics produced are reliable, meaningful and accurate, so that the decisions made on them are sound. You will be testing a pipeline that not only processes data quickly and reliably, but is also able to scale up to handle some of the largest data sets on earth!

Responsibilities of the Senior SDET

• Develop optimal test case design, equivalence classing, and matrix reduction
• Develop test methods that improve coverage for multiple Data Mining feature areas
• Identify opportunities to adopt or develop better automation tools
• Analyze patterns of defects for multiple Data Mining feature areas
• Conduct preliminary root cause analyses that increase team productivity
• Collaborate with other disciplines in improving code design for multiple Data Mining feature areas
• Influence appropriate compromises and dependencies in planning across feature teams
• Establish agreements with other teams that ensure coverage and communication
• Lead and influence data quality work across a team of 200 engineers

• BS or equivalent in a technical area
• Experience shipping at least two large commercial software product (ideally at Microsoft)
• 6+ years programming experience (C#, C/C++, SQL)
• Experience or interest in data analysis and business intelligence
• Proactive, self-motivated and self-starter
• Strong communication skills, and ability to work with other functional roles
