Senior Data Miner Job Description:

Major Responsibilities

• Develop MANTAS pattern sets for defined products using repeatable engineering and data mining processes; help refine and evolve those processes to incorporate best practices for product development
• Map various business scenarios to MANTAS patterns and data elements
• Provide data mining support to cross-functional Product Development teams to build out the MANTAS product line
• Provide data mining support to Customer Care teams to debug and tune existing MANTAS patterns and to develop custom MANTAS patterns for specific customers
• Research and evaluate 3rd party OLAP, query and statistical analysis products
• Develop a working knowledge of data mining as it applies to the financial services domain in the following areas: trading and market making, money laundering within banking and brokerage firms, and retail brokerage customer surveillance
• Maintain and enhance personal technical skills (breadth and depth) to support the MANTAS product line and data mining needs
• [Architect] Develop, refine and actively promote data mining and MANTAS pattern set development processes and ensure that these processes are harmonized with other development processes as prescribed by the Rational Unified Process (RUP)
• [Architect] Define pattern set packaging standards and techniques to be incorporated within the entire product packaging process as well as the processes for the management of pattern library releases
• [Architect] Help establish a product vision and development and test environment and assure data mining product components meet and/or exceed the accepted industry standards for commercial software products
• [Architect] Mentor other data miners and advise them on how to approach certain problems and to resolve technical issues
• [Lead] Prepare detailed pattern set development plans and level of effort estimates for meeting product roadmap release requirements
• [Lead] Track progress of pattern development teams; ensure roadmap milestones are met
• [Lead] Manage data mining staffing issues; participate in reviewing internal candidates, and selecting and interviewing external candidates; participate with Product Development and Customer Care in balancing available resources with company priorities
• [Lead] Establish standard data mining processes and monitor to see that they are being followed, including configuration management and version control processes

Minimum Requirements

• Strong data analytical skills
• Ad hoc prototyping skills using multiple techniques to solve a myriad of business scenarios
• Expertise in on-line analytical processing (OLAP) and statistical analysis
• Familiarity with SQL and other standard database query tools
• Working knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle, Sybase, UDB, SQLServer, and Data Marts and Data Warehouses
• Experience with the NT and Unix operating systems
• Solid verbal and written communication skills
• Travel is expected and may require up to 30% of overall time
• [Architect] Deep expertise in the MANTAS data mining and pattern development processes gained through multiple customer engagements and product development activities
• [Lead] Intimately familiar with the MANTAS data mining and pattern development processes necessary to guide a team through the various steps in the proper sequence
• [Lead] Mature, self-starting, self-motivating, and capable of making decisions independently
• [Lead] Excellent team building and communication skills.

Preferred Background

• Financial services domain expertise in the following areas: trading and market making, money laundering within banking and brokerage firms, and retail brokerage customer surveillance
• Familiarity with UML notation and the Rational Unified Process
• Working knowledge of the software engineering disciplines and technologies associated with the MANTAS product line (C++, Java, JSP, HTML, SQL)
• [Architect] Deep expertise in on-line analytical processing (OLAP) and statistical analysis
• [Lead] Significant experience leading data mining teams responsible for developing and integrating complex systems.
• [Lead] Demonstrated planning, execution, project tracking and control, and leadership experience.
