The previous KDnuggets Poll (11th Annual KDnuggets Data Mining / Analytics Tools poll) asked:

Which data mining/analytic tools you used in the past 12 months for a real project?

More than one tool could be selected.

Based on a record participation from 912 voters, the top tools were:

• RapidMiner, 38%
• R, 30%
• Excel, 24%
• KNIME, 19%
• Your own code, 18%

By the type of tools:

• Commercial-only: 25%
• Open-source/Free: 51%
• Both: 23%
• Own code: 1%

Analysis of top countries by tool type (below) shows that US has the largest number of commercial-only DM software users, while German (DE) KDnuggets readers mostly use open-source tools (RapidMiner, KNIME).
