Aerospike Aerospike Acquires AlchemyDB NewSQL Database to Build on Predictable Speed and Web-Scale Data Management of Aerospike Real-Time NoSQL Database

Mountain View, CA - August 28, 2012 - Web-scale applications that demand immediate response and high availability are fueling a meteoric rise in companies that are betting their business on the Aerospike real-time NoSQL database (formerly Citrusleaf). To expand support for these enterprises-many in production within some of the industry's most data-intensive environments-Aerospike is announcing that it has acquired Alchemy Database (AlchemyDB).

AlchemyDB was the first NewSQL database to integrate relational database management system (RDBMS), document store, and graph database capabilities on top of the Redis open-source key-value store. Aerospike is the only real-time NoSQL database and key-value store that provides predictable ultra-fast performance and uninterrupted operations while scaling transparently to manage billions of objects and terabytes of data. Under terms of the agreement, the AlchemyDB team, led by founder Russell Sullivan, joins Aerospike and is spearheading development efforts to selectively integrate key capabilities of AlchemyDB into Aerospike. The integrated functions will be rolled out over the coming year.

"Aerospike will combine the best enterprise-grade NoSQL key-value store technology with rich enterprise data management functionality," explains Brian Bulkowski, Aerospike founder and CTO. "Our customers are already building revenue-generating applications that push the limits of speed at scale. AlchemyDB combined with the proven Aerospike platform will further fuel developer creativity and make a new class of real-time big data apps a reality."

Key benefits that the Aerospike Community Edition inherits from the Enterprise Edition include:

  • Predictable, ultra-fast performance with sub-millisecond latency and response times of less than 5 milliseconds 99.9% of the time.
  • Reliable handling of more than 200,000 transactions per second (TPS) per node on commodity servers.
  • Automatic failover and replication to ensure uninterrupted operations even in the event of a node failure within the cluster.
  • Self-managing clusters with intelligent data migration, automatic re-balancing, and smart data expiration.
  • No degradation in performance with rolling hardware and software upgrades, and background back-ups and restores.
  • Reduced IT overhead via SSD or flash-optimization, cost-effective use of industry-standard hardware, and support for deployment in the cloud.
