Google buys assets (including Usenet archives) from Deja.com

"With more than 500 million individual messages and growing fast, Usenet and its thriving community is one of the most active and valuable information sources on the Internet," says Google CEO and co-founder Larry Page.

Like many other early Internet companies, Deja started out strong. However, in 2000 the company said it was selling both its Usenet archive and its product research tools because of a lack of growth in the businesses.

Deja.com's other property, Precision Buying Service, was acquired by online auction giant eBay's (Nasdaq: EBAY) Half.com last year. Half.com is a retail business designed to let people buy and sell products at half their estimated value.
