Recent study released by Forrester Research, entitled "Turning Data Into Dollars", says that companies have spent millions on analytical software, without getting the timely insight they want. Most reports are still delivered not in real-time, and without the desired interactivity.

Some recommendations:

With limited budgets in 2001, firms should simplify, picking analytical targets and choosing projects that:

Take advantage of packaged data models (from companies like MicroStrategy and Oracle)

Employ data preparation from packaged solutions.

Deliver short-term wins.

Drive business information to the frontlines.

Seek help from analytics consultants and analytics outsourcers.
