Overstock.com is actively hiring experienced Java and C++ software development engineers with experience and expertise in statistics/data mining/personalization to work on Utah's premier e-commerce web site. Our business has been doubling annually and we're looking for software engineers who are motivated by a challenge: to scale our personalization and data mining technology to support our lightning fast growth.

This is a full-time, permanent position for an experienced developer. This requires working independently as well as participating in and leading small groups.

The ideal candidates will have:

• 2+ years industry experience developing in C++ or Java. This is critical--executing on personalization and data mining ideas is dependent upon industry development experience.
• Self-motivated, team player: we're a no-nonsense, get-it-done organization.
• Flexibility. The ideal candidate will be able to optimize for quality, time or features depending on the specific project.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. A master's degree is preferred
• Full development life-cycle experience from inception to operational release and support

• Strong understanding of statistics and probabilities
• Experience with SQL, SAS, TeraData, etc.

• Experience implementing personalization (recommender, etc.) and data mining systems in a production environment
• Experience working on a real-time, 24/7 internet system
• Experience and understanding of HTTP, TCP/IP programming, Servlets, Tomcat, JSP/Velocity/other templating languages
• Familiarity with XML
• Experience tuning system performance or query performance
• Experienced with and comfortable with Linux/Unix environments
