Inst. of Telecom. and Information Technology The California Institute of Telecommunications and Information Technology - CalIT2 (www.calit2.net ), at the University of California, Irvine has a position open for a research programmer/lead software engineer. The incumbent will be primarily associated with project RESCUE (www.itr-rescue.org ), an NSF large-ITR project on information technology for emergency response, and will be responsible for the development of software systems, artifacts, demonstrations, and applications. A major focus of the work is expected to center around several aspects of a system for achieving situational awareness from raw input information from multimodal data including text, Web data, and other media sources such as video, speech, and sensor data, with responsibility and oversight for both software and hardware aspects of an end-to-end demonstration system. The incumbent will be responsible for taking research concepts, results and output from faculty, researchers, and graduate students and infusing into software systems, applications, and artifacts. He/She is expected to actively coordinate software design, development, and testing activities amongst a team of faculty, staff programmers, post-doctoral fellows, and students.
