Are you passionate about developing advanced and practical data mining and machine learning techniques for solving challenging search problems, and see your impact on a huge number of end users? Do you enjoy playing with very large volumes of real world data? The MSN Search backend team is hiring highly motivated and experienced individuals for high impact data mining projects.

The goal of the team is to build the #1 destination to fulfill all users' information needs (web, multimedia, desktop, video, QA, ...).

To achieve this goal, data mining/machine learning techniques are critical. We have a huge amount of data ranging from user interaction logs, web documents, to system performance data . This data contains valuable information for building the #1 system to serve people�s information needs. The main challenge is to discover this information and use it in the system. We are developing advanced and practical data mining and machine learning techniques to derive information (such as: user intent, detecting and filtering noise and spam, discovering patterns to improve search relevance and result ranking, to measure relevance and user satisfaction quickly and effectively, to identify new information needs from end users, to identify weak points of the search system, to discover patterns for identifying system perf problems, and many many more). We also work on techniques to manage and process the extremely high volume of data efficiently.

If you are excited about this area and have solid Data Mining/Machine Learning/Statistics knowledge (with a Master or PhD degree or 3+ years industrial experience in these areas); extensive real world large data analysis experience and software development experience with C++, C#, and/or Perl; good experience/knowledge on databases, strong problem solving skills; are creative and enjoy applying these techniques to solve search problems, here is the excellent opportunity for you. This is a fast growing area in our team. We need your talent on research, development, and problem solving.
