Highlights of the World's Preeminent Data Science Conference Include Industry Practice Expo, Asia-Pacific Tracks and Largest Ever KDD Cup Competition.

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 17, 2012. The world's leading Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining conference, KDD-2012, organized by the ACM Special Interest Group on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining ( ACM SIGKDD ), will convene in Beijing, China, from August 12-16, 2012. Attracting hundreds of high caliber scientists, academics and students, as well as renowned industry experts, KDD 2012 is the top forum for present and discuss academic and industry advancements in data mining, data science, Big Data and predictive analytics. For the first time in its history, KDD will be held in Asia, a testament to the increased global significance of data science across business, government and research sectors.

"As the value of data science continues to grow, so does our community," said Dr. Usama Fayyad, SIGKDD Executive Committee Chairman and Chairman and CTO of ChoozOn Corp. "Year after year, we set new records for conference attendance in numbers and in quality, attracting the best and brightest scientists, business leaders and students in our mission to promote new ideas and initiatives in the strategic fields of data mining, Big Data, predictive analytics and data science."

New Tracks and New Faces
Taking advantage of the Asia-Pacific region, KDD 2012 will feature renowned data scientists from the region, including Yong Shi, Executive Deputy Director, Research Center on Fictitious Economy and Data Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences/Strategic Advisor, China Data Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. As part of KDD's Industry Practice Expo Track, Dr. Shi will provide an overview of China's National Personal Credit Scoring System, known as "China Score", a unique advanced KDD application with direct strategic impact on Chinese economic policy.

Robin Li, Co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Baidu, the leading search engine in China and the third largest independent search engine in the world, will join KDD 2012 as keynote speakers. The conference will feature a first-of-its-kind Asia-Pacific Track for scientists to share their contributions and increase awareness and momentum of KDD research in this region.

To help recruit new talent into the KDD field and provide insights from top experts, KDD 2012 will host a summer school August 10-11. It will focus on two of the hottest topics in data mining today: Mining Complex Data and Large Scale Data Mining of Big Data.

"Over the years, we have seen a dramatic increase of interest in KDD from China, both in research and practice as social networks, micro-blogging and online commerce have flourished," said Qiang Yang, General Chair of ACM KDD 2012, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, China. "KDD 2012 will not only accelerate the achievements of data scientists in the region but will have a global impact as scientists, students and industry leaders gather in Beijing to exchange ideas, best practices and latest research findings."

KDD Cup Competition Bridges the Gap between Data Science and Business Problems
KDD 2012 will also feature the winners of the KDD Cup competition, one of the most prestigious data science competitions in the world. Presenting data scientists with a real world data set and two different problems, the annual competition attracts participation from hundreds of experts. KDD Cup's policy of publishing solutions and results fuels ongoing innovation in the area of data mining. This year's competition is sponsored by Chinese Internet giant Tencent, and features the largest and most complex data set ever made available in a KDD Cup contest.

The event is open to both ACM SIGKDD members as well as non-members. Early bird registration, offering significant registration fee discounts to SIGKDD members and non members closes June 29, 2012. For additional registration information please visit kdd2012.sigkdd.org/
