Jan 14, 2010. The Microgaming Network has decided to stop allowing access to the poker hand data that was available to players on the popular poker site.

According to sources at Microgaming, the company has stopped players from viewing hand histories that used to be available on the site. In addition, Microgaming has stopped letting players download and save bulk poker hand histories that could be mined with data analysis tools.

Using third-party data-mining tools, some players were able to identify weaknesses in the hand histories of other players to gain a competitive advantage in future poker games on the Microgaming site.

According to Microgaming's head of poker operations, Andrew Cuclas, the move to eliminate data mining is an attempt to change with the times. "Concern has been rising over the long-term effect of third party software upon the poker industry as a whole, and in particular the negative effect it has on the recreational player demographic."
