Poll Results: IBM to win in Jeopardy vs Humans

60% of KDnuggets readers expect IBM Watson computer to win, which would be a tremendous milestone for artificial intelligence.

From:
The previous KDnuggets Poll asked:

Who will win Jeopardy! The IBM Grand Challenge:

IBM Watson playing Jeopardy

  • 60% voted for IBM
  • 32% voted for humans (Ken Jennings or Brad Rutter)
  • 8% were not sure.
Gregory PS: KDnuggets readers expect IBM computer to win. Regardless of who actually gets more dollars at the end of the competition, this ia already a tremendous milestone for artificial intelligence. What is most amazing to me, is the lack of amazement in the popular media - see e.g. NY Times Article The TV Watch: Man, Machine and a Trivial Pursuit which says
If Watson wins, it's a victory for 2,800 computers, and no disgrace to the two flesh-and-blood champions who took it on. If Watson loses, then I.B.M. should be ashamed: the company should have gone all out and sprung for a full 3,000.

This event brings us closer to Raymond Kurtzweil prediction of "singularity" - emergence of full-fledged AI in less than 50 years.

Fantastic achievement for IBM already !
I think that non-technical people have seen many sci-fi movies and think that AI is already here, so there is no amazement at this performance.
Interesting that Watson got questions on the "decades" wrong
