Turn the raw data of "civic health" into beautiful, useful applications and visualizations, enabling communities to be better understood and made to thrive.


Civic Data Challenge Civic health data has been collected for years, and we now have an opportunity to make this trove of community insight more valuable and accessible to decision makers and the public. The Civic Data Challenge will bring new eyes, new minds, new findings, and new skill sets to the field of civic health. Designers, data scientists, researchers, and app developers are especially encouraged to

Contestants will analyze Civic Health data alongside other datasets, identify connections and correlations, and create visual representations and applications to showcase their findings.

Entries must use the Civic Health CPS data provided. This data should be analyzed together with at least one additional dataset focused on outcomes in:

  • education
  • health
  • safety
  • economy
Suggested datasets in these categories are provided, but entries may also use data from other public sources online, as long as the dataset is appropriately cited. Additionally, use of Knight Foundation Soul of the Community data is recommended. This must still be used in conjunction with Civic Health CPS data and at least one other dataset in the categories above.

Entries must be submitted byJuly 29.
