Information Management Online, October 25, 2010, Justin Kern

Teradata October 25, 2010 - Teradata moved closer toward "analytics for everyone" as it released a new portfolio, enhancements to its data warehouse family and Teradata Database 13.10, which enables companies to track and compare current and historical data. The company announced those and other releases and partnerships Monday during its PARTNERS User Group Conference.

Wide-ranging analytics have too often been reserved for bigger corporations or only certain departments, says Chris Twogood, director of product and services marketing for Teradata. With new portfolio options, tools like customer optimization and time-aware tracking, as well as a range of sizes in its new data platform family, Twogood says more customers and business sizes have access to fast, accurate data read-outs.

With that in mind, Twogood says the company announced its Teradata Accelerated Analytics portfolio, a series of services, tools and partnerships to address "analytics for everyone." Features tools in the portfolio highlighted by the company include big and unstructured data handled by Hadoop, sped up OLAP processing, geospatial location intelligence and plugins for Eclipse and Excel.

The five purpose-built data warehouse appliances unveiled in Teradata's new platform family vary in processor size and speed to address the needs of a host of different sized companies. For example, the Teradata Data Mart Appliance 560 is meant for entry-level system use that includes symmetrical multiprocessing and up to 11.7TB of uncompressed capacity. On the other end of the big data spectrum, the Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse 5650 runs more complex workloads from thousands of users.

Each platform is run on Teradata Database 13.10, the latest version of its database, which uses time-aware temporal analytics to monitor data changes at any point in time, including points when that information may have been readjusted or reassigned. Teradata 13.10 also includes data compression enhancements, open parallel framework and customer-driven data functions.
