Gregory Piatetsky-Shapiro answers:
Oracle, a vendor of in-database data mining, gives these advantages:
- eliminates data movement,
- speeds data mining,
- simplifies model deployment, and
- delivers security and scalability.
See www.kdnuggets.com/news/2005/n19/9i.html.
The disadvantages include potentially higher cost
and reduced flexibility (some more advanced algorithms may be more difficult to implement in a database)
