In-database Data Mining advantages/differences compared to compared to data mining done on a flat file extracted from the database/data warehouse?

Oracle, a vendor of in-database data mining, gives these advantages:

  • eliminates data movement,
  • speeds data mining,
  • simplifies model deployment, and
  • delivers security and scalability.

The disadvantages include potentially higher cost and reduced flexibility (some more advanced algorithms may be more difficult to implement in a database)
