Responsibilities
Execute research projects, develop innovative algorithms; pursue patents where appropriate. Analyze data, identify problems and potential customers, devise solutions and build prototypes. Stay current on state-of-the-art algorithms, technologies and theories. Maintain world-class academic credentials through publications, presentations, external collaborations, and service to the research community. Work closely with engineers to get your ideas into production, including writing production code.
Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science or related area.
- Excellent knowledge of and experience with large-scale web and text information extraction and data-mining techniques. Experience with large-scale approximate inference, statistical NLP and data aggregation techniques, and structural data mining, network modeling, machine learning or predictive modeling.
- Demonstrated ability to apply data mining techniques to a broad range of web and other data including both structured and unstructured data.
- Experience with relevant communal research datasets such as KDD Cup, Netflix Prize, TREC.
- Familiarity with some of the following: Matlab, R, SAS, Cytoscape, Pajek
- Enjoys staying abreast of current trends in social networking and web 2.0 technologies
- Research track record with a minimum of 5 peer-reviewed publications, and participation on program committees, editorial boards, and advisory panels.
- Ability to collaborate with other research scientist/engineers and work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong programming skills such as Java/C++ and scripting language (Perl/Python/Ruby)
- 3+ years of post-doctoral industry or academic experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and influencing abilities.
- Ability to align research work with business strategy and translate research results into applications.
- Industry experience, especially in a consumer Internet or online advertising related setting is a plus.
