Job Description

The Boeing Company is seeking a Data Architect to create Data Architecture and Data Models, define and develop Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) procedures, and manage the overall ETL architecture to support commercial and defense programs. The successful candidate will become part of our growing Boeing Research & Technology Team in Huntsville, AL and work in the new Center for Applied Simulation and Analytics (CASA) Lab.

The successful candidate will help design and develop Big Data Databases, Data models, ETL processes, and Data Warehouse applications through the use of best practices and tools that support the Analytics and Simulation Technology research and development projects. Candidate works with project teams and customers to identify requirements, perform research and implements technology solution options to achieve business needs.

The successful candidate will drive the development of Database Architectural Artifacts such as the Logical Data Model, Conceptual Model and Physical Data Models. Designs highly scalable, enterprise software applications, model database architecture and relation databases. Researches and recommends new software products as well as orchestrates technical innovations for the aerospace industry.

The successful candidate should be able to work in the dynamic and distributed BR&T environment. Projects typically span a period of two to five years where collaboration with others across the company is important to project success. It is also important, in our team environment, to have regular communication with the project manager, principle investigator, and customer. The employee should be hands-on, likes to figure things out, enjoys learning new things, and is good at applying what they have learned.

Qualifications
  • Applicants must have experience delivering complex data solutions with comprehension in areas such as Architecture, Configuration, Performance, Scalability, Reliability, and Infrastructure. The successful candidate should be able to communicate well with other Software Engineers, Data Analysts, User Experience Professionals, Graphic Artists, and other members of our diverse team.
  • Utilizes an understanding of systems, database and networking with crossover skills to assist the design and implementation of these in custom solutions.
  • Proven programming & technical skills in ERWin, Java, Python, Hadoop, MapReduce, SQL.
  • Candidates must have experience with Extract, Transform, Load (ETL).
  • 3 or more years of experience with each of the following are required:
    • Advanced modeling techniques for data warehouse data (e.g. Third Normal Form, Slowly Changing Dimensions, and Star Schemas).
    • Java Development and Architectures
    • Working directly with modeling tools (e.g. ERWin)

     

 
Typical Education/ Experience:
Level 3: Technical bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' or a PhD degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A technical degree is defined as any four year degree, or greater, in a mathematic, scientific or information technology field of study.

Level 4: Technical bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A technical degree is defined as any four year degree, or greater, in a mathematic, scientific or information technology field of study.
