The Language Intelligence and Information Retrieval team of K.U.Leuven, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Computer Science, Belgium (www.cs.kuleuven.be/~liir)
has an open PhD position in the domain of text mining and statistical natural language processing.
The PhD is financed by the "Radical Innovations" project (K.U.Leuven Research Fund - GOA/12/003) and is carried out in collaboration with the Faculty of Business and Economics of K.U.Leuven (Prof. Reinhilde Veugelers). The main objective of the proposed research is to generate a better understanding of how "radical innovations" originate and contribute to the performance of companies. Automated content recognition in text (in patents, scientific publications and business news) will play an important role, hence the opportunity for a obtaining a PhD in Computer Science on this topic. Doctoral students are also expected to assist in the supervision of a limited number of Master theses within the field of their research.
Your profile
Candidates preferably have a background in Computer Science. They have a strong interest in academic research and possess excellent analytical and quantitative skills. They need to have affinity with large scale data analysis. Excellent (honors-level) results in prior studies are required. Candidates are fluent in spoken and written English.
