Projects will focus on the analysis of medical texts, data mining, knowledge discovery, and recommendation systems. This position will report to Dr. Ilya Safro in the School of Computing at Clemson University, and work with a team that includes Dr. Amy Apon in the School of Computing, Clemson University, and Dr. Mark Wess, the Chief Medical Information Officer at Greenville Hospital System. Candidates with solid background in machine learning, data mining, IR, text analysis, recommendation systems are encouraged to apply. Examples of projects in the analysis of medical texts and huge databases of patient records include medical recommendation systems and unstructured-to-structured data transformation. Strong implementation skills are required.

Some (academic or industrial) experience in the following areas is preferred, though not required. The areas are medicine, medical text analysis, computational linguistics, natural text analysis, HPC and big data systems, probabilistic models, model reduction, and collaborative filtering.

Because of the nature of the projects (mining plain medical texts in English) we will consider candidates with strong language skills (preferably native English speakers).
