Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research and Emerging Pathogens Institute at the University of Florida are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate in bioinformatics.
The major research focus is on developing and applying DNA sequence analysis and machine learning methodologies to address the computational challenges of analyzing massive sequence data generated by next-generation DNA sequencing platforms such as Roche/454 Genome Sequencer FLX, Applied Biosystems SOLiD and Illumina Genome Analyzer. The postdoc will work on several large-scale metagenomics projects.
Time-limited:
1-year contract with possible 1-year extension depending upon performance and funding.
Requirement:
A Ph. D. degree in computer science, electrical engineering, bioinformatics, or related field; excellent communication skills; ability to effectively work individually and as part of a team; strong background in machine learning and statistical data analysis; proficiency with some combination of the following programming languages: Perl, Java, C, and Matlab; experience with managing large-scale data sets; biology background is a plus but not necessary.
