Postdoc, IR/Data Mining

A 2 years postdoctoral position is available at ISTI-CNR, Pisa, Italy in the laboratory of High Performance Computing (hpc.isti.cnr.it).

The research in our lab is focused on Information Retrieval, Data Mining, and Distributed Computing with special attention to efficiency and scalability.

The available position is reserved to highly motivated individual with experience in issues related to Information Retrieval and Data Mining. The candidate is expected to spend part of his/her research time on a joint project with the IMT Institute for Advanced Studies in Lucca (www.imtlucca.it), partially supporting this position. The project has the aim of modeling and analyzing cultural heritage. In particular, it is interested in studying and analyzing fluxes of tourists within a city in order to identify points of touristic interest, to measure the visiting time of each of these points, to establish visiting paths within the city, to design system for the suggestions of new interesting points, etc.

Requirements: Candidates will be evaluated accordingly to the following requirements:

• Completed PhD in Computer Science or Applied Math with strong CS background.
• Experience with information retrieval with a good publication record in a related topic, good knowledge of data indexing and machine learning strategies and optimization algorithms;
• Programming experiences in either C/C++, Java, Python, MapReduce;
• Strong written and communication skills. Scientific representativity will be expected from the successful candidate;
• Fluent in English.
